Within the opening couple of minutes, Walsall made progress on the right as Craig Westcarr crossed low into the area but the ball was cleared.

There were a couple of openings as either end as Febian Brandy saw his strike pushed away by the 'keeper before the home side tested Sam Johnstone.

The home fans were appealing for a penalty when new loan signing, Angelo Balanta went down under the challenge of James Chambers, but the referee was unimpressed.

A few niggly challenges coming in from the home side.

A cross from Balanta seemed harmless enough but caused problems for The Saddlers' rear-guard and as the ball was half-cleared, Dan Burn fired over from distance.

The home side enjoying a spell of pressure as the opening period went on.

With 35 minutes on the clock, a good break by The Saddlers saw Jamie Paterson cut inside and curl just inches over.

Brandy did well to get in between the heart of the Yeovil defence only to be taken down by Byron Webster to give Walsall a free-kick in a promising position. Paterson's effort hit the wall as Andy Butler won a corner which the 'keeper could only palm down to Paterson whose strike was bravely blocked.

A raid by Brandy saw James Chambers' low cross cleared as far as Sam Mantom whose effort was blocked. At the other end, Kevin Dawson's strike deflected into the arms of Sam Johnstone.

The Saddlers building up a head of steam and playing some neat football without finding that final ball.

Yeovil being forced into mistakes by a lively looking Walsall. 

Loud appeals for a penalty as Paul Downing halted James Hayter in his tracks. It was an awkward-looking challenge by the referee was in a good position to wave away the protests.

A break by The Saddlers saw Brandy and Westcarr link up for the latter to hit a low effort that lacked power to trouble the 'keeper.

With 64 minutes on the clock, Burn was purposeful to get forward and feed Balanta whose cross from the left flashed across the face of goal.

A corner from Walsall was scrambled as far as the edge of the area where Grigg's drive was tipped over by Marek Stech, who then struggled from the corner that followed. As yet another flag-kick came in, the 'keeper struggled again and Downing's header hit the side-netting.

There was a change on 78 minutes as Grigg was replaced by Ashley Hemmings.

As the clock ticked down, there were more home shouts for a penalty as the rangy Dan Burn fell to the ground under pressure but nothing was given.

A second substitution with three minutes to go saw Westcarr replaced by Romaine Sawyers who was signed on loan from West Bromwich Albion the previous day.

In the end it was The Saddlers' second successive goalless draw on our travels.
