TWO-GOAL MOUSSA HOPING FOR FURTHER INCLUSION

20 March 2017

Belgian netted twice after coming on off the bench...

Belgian midfielder Franck Moussa hopes his two-goal performance at former club Southend will lead to further inclusion in the side.

The 27-year-old netted twice in eight first-half minutes to give the Saddlers a 2-0 lead, having come on as an early substitute in place of the injured Erhun Oztumer.

But Phil Brown’s Shrimpers fought back after the break, with strikes from Nile Ranger, Anton Ferdinand and Simon Cox sealing a 3-2 Blues win.

And although his well-taken double ultimately proved in vain, Moussa – who had made only two appearances in 2017 before Saturday - was pleased to make a positive impact off the bench.

“I’ve been waiting for a chance to prove what I can do and I was happy to be able to come on and show just a bit of that,” said the former Coventry man.

“When you do come on early in the game you have to have an impact as early as you can and I was happy to be able to contribute as soon as I came on.

“I’m an attacking midfielder so when the ball comes in the box I’m going to be in and around waiting for an opportunity, and when they come, try to make sure I hit the target.

“The two goals came from that type of situation – I was in the right place at the right time and dispatched it as well as I could. “I want to be in and around the team and be able to have an impact and do my best when called upon.

“Hopefully this will give me another opportunity to show that I can contribute still.”

Having led 2-0 at half-time, Moussa was disappointed his side couldn’t hold on.

“They brought attacking players on the pitch and strikers who are known for scoring goals, so that was a clue they were going to go for it,” he added.

“They had some physical players up front and, being the home team, you knew the ball was going to end up in the box.

“We were trying to keep it away from the box, and if it did come in, deal with it. It was disappointing to concede three goals so late on in the game.”
