NEW DATE SET FOR COVENTRY

7 February 2014

Saddlers unhappy with The Football League Executive ruling...

Walsall Football Club are disappointed to announce that our postponed fixture with Coventry City will now take place at Sixfields on Wednesday, 5th March (kick-off 7.45pm).

The original tie, scheduled for 1st February, was postponed due to a water-logged pitch. Due to the fixture congestion at Sixfields, with both Northampton Town and The Sky Blues using the facility, Coventry City requested the game not take place until on Wednesday, 5th March.

As a club we did not agree to this date due to its close proximity to two other local derbies – Wolverhampton Wanderers (8th March) and Crewe Alexandra (11th March). – meaning three fixtures in six days.

We suggested alternative dates in February, where we currently have just four fixtures as opposed to March where we now have eight fixtures.

When the two clubs cannot agree, The Football League Executive adjudicate. On this occasion, they have ruled in favour of Coventry’s suggested date, more than a month after the original tie was due to take place, much to our disappointment.

Tickets purchased for the original tie will be valid for the rearranged fixture. Any supporter wishing to claim a refund for the new date must do so before 12 noon on Tuesday, 4th March.
