Pre-match: Farquharson aiming to continue positive progress

15 December 2023

Walsall defender Priestley Farquharson is looking to continue not only the Saddlers current unbeaten run but also his run in the team after injury.

Having returned into the side in recent weeks after a long injury lay-off, Farquharson is relishing the opportunity to showcase his ability once again.

“The team has helped me come back in. The gaffer has given me all the confidence coming back in as well, so I’ve come in and felt quite free,” he said.

“I just need to keep performing. I got my first 90 (minutes) against Barrow which was quick as I went straight in and got my first 90 and I felt good. Now I have just got to keep it up and stay out there and keep the momentum.”

The 26-year-old did find it tough on his return to action but was nonetheless happy to contribute for the team yet again.

“It was tough going straight back into it but if that’s what the team required for me, I will do that,” he commented.

“I was in rehab for quite a while so to get out of there was all I wanted to do.

“I wanted to get back out there. Even though the result did not go our way, it was good to get out there onto the pitch finally.

“I now feel good. I think my body has adjusted, my mind has adjusted and I’m just back to it now. I want to get back to it, get back to being a professional and doing what I do best, trying to help the team.”

The Saddlers are now unbeaten in three games and after last weekend’s impressive victory over Notts County, with Farquharson looking to keep that positive momentum going forward.

“We’ve been unbeaten in three and we need to keep that and keep solid. Clean sheets are massive because you can win 1-0s, 2-0s. A corner has been turned but we need to keep on that trajectory and keep going forward,” he discussed.

“We can’t accept mediocre so for Tranmere we’ve got to go in and win that game at home and make it a fortress again.

“We need to get the fans behind us because they are amazing when they are on our side and their loud. We need to perform on the pitch though, perform for the gaffer, perform for the families, and make everyone proud.

“For me, Saturday is a massive game to staple our position on the season and creep up the table.”
